Alistair Turnbull and Rosie Holmes

Alistair Turnbull and Rosie Holmes

Alistair Turnbull has had the ultimate sea change from corporate banker in New York to beer brewer in the Adelaide Hills. Having not brewed a drop before opening the Lobethal Bierhaus in 2006, Alistair and his partner Rosie now keep busy brewing nine specialty premium beers onsite. Just nine months after opening, Lobethal Bierhaus was awarded six medals in the Australian International Beer Awards and the winning hasn't stopped there. This year, the Bierhaus won four trophies at the Royal Adelaide Beer Show. Alistair's sea change is proving worthwhile. "The chance to create a product I love myself and then have others enjoy it in a friendly environment is absolutely fantastic. And it doesn't stop there; I get to live in the Adelaide Hills, a region which I firmly believe is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been," Alistair says. If Alistair could brew a special edition or commemorative beer, it would be a decision he'd have to think carefully about. "While I've often thought about putting a picture of Bruce (our British Bulldog) on the label of a British Bitter, perhaps I need to dedicate one to good ol' mum".

Adam Swanson

Adam Swanson may well be the secret ingredient to a win for the Australian Netball Diamonds when they take on New Zealand this month. As restaurant Zucca's head chef and San Remo brand ambassador, Adam will cook a pasta feast ahead of the big game, ensuring there's no repeat episode of a previous cooking disaster. "When I was filming for Ready, Steady Cook, I was cooking a dish of baked brie with crostini. The cheese was in the oven and when I took it out - it exploded everywhere," Adam says. When he's not in the kitchen, Adam loves getting away to Moonta Bay on the Yorke Peninsula or shopping around for amazing local produce and wine. Whilst cooking for the Diamonds is quite an achievement, Adam says he'd be honoured to cook for the Pope. Asked whether he'd be taking any glory if the Diamonds win, he responded 'hell yeah!' Fair enough, too!

Derry Geber

Derry Geber

Having spent two summers working in his Uncle's backpackers and later being made redundant from his banking job, Derry Geber took things into his own hands. The result is the brand new Barossa Backpackers, perfectly situated behind Chateau Tanunda, one of Australia's oldest wineries. "I learnt from my time travelling that the things that make a good backpackers is cleanliness, friendly staff and a good atmosphere," says Derry who has travelled extensively around South America. "I love meeting travellers who come through the door and hearing their travel stories and helping them out. I met some great people in South America who helped me out and it's great to return the favour," says Derry. If he's not among wine country, Derry can be found coast-side at Tumby Bay on the Eyre Peninsula.
