Clipsal 500 Adelaide is Australia's largest ticketed domestic motor sport event, and the first round of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. First held in April 1999 as the Sensational Adelaide 500, it was staged as a motor racing event over three days until being extended to four days in 2003. An icon of the events and tourism calendar in Adelaide for the past 18 years, Clipsal 500 Adelaide continues to evolve and introduce exciting on and off-track attractions; including Stadium Super Trucks, Enduro-X, concerts from world-class music acts, and themed exhibitions Cars of the Screen. In 2016, Clipsal 500 Adelaide welcomed 263,500 patrons over the four days including 13,500 interstate visitors; and injected over $65 million into the State - the highest ever recorded.

The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge remains one of the world’s great engineering challenges. Since 1987, the purpose of the event has been to drive innovation in electric vehicle technology, including designing and building the world’s most efficient electric vehicles powered by solar energy, and promoting and celebrating innovation and technical excellence. This internationally recognised and lauded challenge is about strategic planning and creating a balance between sustainable speed, endurance and energy management. The Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is unique and one of very few in the world conducted on public roads; commencing in Darwin and travelling over 3,000 kilometres to Adelaide.
